Welcome to NIAC

Founded jointly by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the University of Washington in 2013, the Northwest Institute for Advanced Computing, or NIAC, is both a physical and “virtual” collaborative center designed to maximize the impact of computing on transformative discoveries that fuel scientific and societal progress.

NIAC serves as a center of excellence and collaboration, where research partners from diverse academic and industry organizations throughout the Pacific Northwest region and the world bring their collective expertise with advanced computing system technologies, data analysis techniques and domain science to bear on some of society’s biggest problems.

From its physical hub at UW, NIAC also will train and empower future generations of researchers who understand advanced computing technologies and, most importantly, can collaborate with colleagues in a range of fields to take full advantage of the capabilities provided by these technologies.
